West Ham Reportedly Interested in Michy Batshuyai Again
According to the Telegraph West Ham are eyeing up another move for Chelsea hitman Michy Batshuyai. the hammers were first reported to be interested in the Belgian striker in 2016 since that failed move the club have been linked with him ever since.
Batshuyai has become a spare part in West London since his move from Marseille, becoming one of the multiple players in Chelsea’s loan system. The 26-year-old has had a mixture of success on his loan deals, becoming a hotshot at Borussia Dortmund to flopping at Valencia to scoring again at Crystal Palace.
West Ham currently has Sebastian Haller and Albian Ajeti as recognised strikers at the club. Haller has struggled to hit the back of the net regularly and Ajeti has not been given a fair chance since his arrival last summer. Jordan Hugill is the only other striker at the club and is having a decent loan away at Championship side QPR.
There is definitely a place in the squad for Batshuyai, he would certainly be a better option for the Hammers then either Hugill or Ajeti. A place as a starter would be difficult if he was to play as a lone striker ahead of Haller. Batshuyai could be perfect could partner for Haller, the striker is blessed with pace and could link up well playing off West Hams record signing.
Chelsea, however, would want a reasonable fee for the striker. Currently valued at around £15 million on transfermarkt.com and the Blues will value him higher as they paid around £35 million for him back in 2016.
This could prove tricky because it is rumoured the Hammers will need to sell players to fund the club which has come under trouble during the Coronavirus pandemic. Chelsea is interested in star player Declan Rice, so perhaps Batshuyai could be used as a make-weight in any deal Chelsea proposes to West Ham for Rice.
