With a very unsure transfer period ahead of West Ham and the rest of the footballing world, here is a position-by-position breakdown of the Hammers’ depth and an understanding of what the team may require.

Who knows if the season will be completed. Will the team be relegated in a intense match frenzy? Will the season be cancelled? Will there even be any money to spend? The hold the Coronavirus hiatus has put on the footballing world has everyone left in a haze regarding the understanding of what is to come for their respective clubs. For the Hammers, this means it’s time to grade and break down West Ham’s positional depth and identify what the club needs.

Goalkeepers: A

If there is one spot where the Irons are seemingly okay, it’s between the pipes in goal. Lukasz Fabianski has shown that through injury, he’s still an elite shot-stopper and even though he is 35-years-old, keepers depreciate at a much lesser rate than outfield players. He may only have another season or two (at most) of elite play left, but until then he’s a must-start for the Hammers.

With Roberto Jiminez out on loan and not even a thought to return to the East London, thank the lord Darren Randolph has returned. Sure, his transfer in was the cheap option, as the majority of his fee was just a cancellation of owed funds from Middlesbrough, but he is more than good enough to play the backup and Cup keeper role.

Outside of Fabianski and Randolph, two 30+ keepers, Nathan Trott has been excelling at Wimbledon on a much-needed loan, Joseph Anang is starring for the U23 team, and 17-year-old youngster Kristian Hegyi is getting some high praise for his early play.

The keeper position is in safe hands (no pun intended) and with the emergence of young keepers Dean Henderson and Aaron Ramsdale in the Premier League, both Trott and Anang could be the next goalie to step up and make a difference for a long time at West Ham.
