After a drama-filled final day of the transfer window, West Ham spent big on Jarrod Bowen. That move, not only smart, has fulfilled a dream.

Recently in an interview, Jarrod Bowen has reveled to everyone the “why” to why he joined West Ham United. The Championship forward was a last-minute signing on transfer day by David Moyes for an initial fee of £23m and to fill a much-needed role.

Bowen capped a big winter window which also saw Darren Randolph come back to West Ham and Tomas Soucek come in from Eastern Europe. The former Hull City man was given time to gel with the club as he only played in minimal minutes for his first two matches finally to start against Southampton and we all know how that match turned out.

Since then, all of the top football leagues have been postponed due to COVID-19 and has stopped the bleeding surrounding West Ham in their relegation battle. Since then, Bowen sat down and spoke about why he chose the Hammers and what it has meant to him so far.

When it came to leaving the Tigers, he said “I felt I had done as much as I could at Hull, and I felt like I had earned this opportunity now.” He has proven that he has earned that opportunity with his play so far and his almost immediate meshing with the club.

He also has a good head on his shoulders and understands what is at stake for the club:

"“I’m starting down here again and I’ve got to work my way up with my time here. Hopefully it’s a very long time. It’s everyone’s dream to play in the Premier League and, when a team like West Ham came in for me, it was a no-brainer.”"

He may not be West Ham born and bred, but he understands the club and where it is at currently. It’s good to hear that he gets his role and that he cannot just come into a club and take over. It takes time and growth and all of that will continue to make him a better player and leader.

He also had a few things for the West Ham faithful about his first run out at home:

"“Making my home debut, coming out in front of all those people. That’s when it hit me. That was what I dreamed of. I wouldn’t change it for the world.”"

West Ham are a club that has fans that get it and feed off of the play as well as the players feed off of them and it took all of 10 seconds for Jarrod Bowen to see that and understand it. Then it only took a few more minutes for him to put the final touches on his home debut.

Yes, playing in the Premier League and at West Ham has been a dream come true for Bowen and we can all only hope that the club and David Moyes will reach out and find more like him. This club needs young leaders and players that truly want to play for the club, not just themselves.
