A major area of excitement and concern for West Ham has been the midfield roles. Right in the middle of that chaos is a young talent that shouldn’t be forgotten.

With names like Soucek, Rice, Noble, and Fornals patrolling the midfield for West Ham it might be easy to forget about the current loaned out midfield, Conor Coventry. Even more so with another loaned out CM, Josh Cullen, projected to be ahead of him in the pecking order but he shouldn’t be forgotten about.

Coventry is currently on loan at Lincoln City and has been since the winter window but he is only there until the end of this season, whenever that is. Since his move he has played in 7 of the 11 matches prominently as a CDM for the Imps, but that’s not all he’s played this year.

Before his move he was on the senior team roster twice and played 8 minutes in an EFL cup match early on in the season. Additionally, he played every minute of 14 PL2 matches where he captained 9 of them. He may still be young, but at 20 he’s seen a lot of football in a lot of different competitions.

If you take the typical track of how youth players progress, you would assume that next year he might go back out on loan to a Championship side or to Germany or somewhere like that. However, the club as placed a lot of responsibility on him before and they all the right to do it again.

The youngster is already featuring in the Republic of Ireland’s U21 squad and in due time should be joining Cullen on the senior side. Like Noble and Cullen he’s not the biggest of CDM’s only coming in at around 5 feet 9 inches tall but his agility and movement have helped him in the process of becoming a solid box to box type of midfielder.

Honestly, until I began to think about who to write on I completely forgot about Conor and with his potential, there is no way he should be forgotten about. This young talent is just another tool that the Hammers will have at their disposal for next season.
