West Ham United have a need for a young, energetic left-back. Luckily for them, they can put this gem playing at Hertha BSC on their Bundesliga wish-list.

As West Ham fans’ the only real memory some might have of Maximilian Mittelstadt is that of when Hertha BSC played West Ham in a friendly at the beginning of the season. That memory might be far distant, especially since the Hammers lost, but the potential of Max shouldn’t be lost.

As senior team football goes, he has known 2 clubs… Hertha Berlin and the German international youth squads. He has capped 30 times in the German youth system and just over 80 times for the HBSC senior team so even at the age of 23, he has more than enough match experience.

The only reason he doesn’t have more match experience under his belt is due that he has traditionally fallen behind the German international Marvin Plattenhardt. However, this season Plattenhardt has seen a dip in form and injuries which have given Mittelstadt the leg up.

In his 23 overall matches this season, he has scored once and assisted 4 times and he is also very versatile, which should be right up West Ham’s ally. His versatility has seen him play 9 times at left-back, 7 times on the left of the midfield, and 3 times as a winger. He is everything Hammers fan’s wanted out of Arthur Masuaku… but just never happened.

For security reasons, the Hammers should most likely keep Aaron Cresswell as the every match starter down the left side for another season but if groomed right, the young German hopeful could learn a lot from Cressy just as he has under Marvin Plattenhardt.

The Bundesliga has a lot of talent circulating around the left-back position and has been a good breeding ground for the Premier League and other top leagues around the world so I doubt that this will be the last time we hear this name. This is a wish list, but it is a need that needs full-filled.
