Number’s 9 through 1 might feel a bit like the ending of a top 10 with the names that come to mind but it was also tough to pick out just one legend for each number but alas, here we go. For number 9, it wasn’t easy but it’s tough to look past David Cross and everything he did for the club in his time there.

Listen, if you want to make your heard and head hurt, just try to pick your favorite West Ham number 8. With the likes of Parker, Sinclair, McAvennie, and Peters just to name a few, the recent of Cheik and Felipe Anderson don’t even come to mind. However, in his 4 years of wearing the number 8… Scotty Parker leads the pack and has the moments to go with it.

Both a famous manager and player for the club, Harry Redknapp wins the battle for the number 7 kit but if it was a fight I think Mark Ward would win easily. So many big names wore the number 6 even after the era of Bobby Moore but there can be none other as he was and is the most famous West Ham player of all time.

More recent names like James Tomkins and Pablo Zabaleta headline the number 5 but Alvin Martin wins the day. There was simply no one better than Martin and for 15 years he dawned the number 5 week in and out. Much like numbers 5 and 6 before it, the winner of number 4 is easily the icon Billy Bonds who will forever be in our hearts and stadium for that matter.

The second longest-standing Hammer wearing the number 3 is Aaron Cresswell and to newer fans, he might be there favorite at this number but you don’t have to go back very far to find the winner of this number… Julian Dicks. From scoring to knocking your knees out Dicksy was and will always be a club legend.

Number 2 was also packed with icons from Bonds (again), Lampard, Steve Potts, and the most recent Winston Reid. However, a name not mentioned and the winner is Ray Stewart. For 7 years he patrolled the pitch dawning the number 2. And finally at 1… the battle of the keepers. On his day you would have to take Ludek Milkosko in any situation as number 1 in our hearts and on the pitch.

Whoa! There you have it, from basically number 68 Dan Kemp all the way down to Ludo at number 1. Although there are far more legends of the game than the ones listed here, these players here have made a livelihood in East London and will be remembered forever. COME ON YOU IRONS!
