Word is starting to surface that West Ham wants the controversial signing from Barcelona, Martin Braithwaite. But would he fit the current system in place?

The rumor itself is what it is at the moment and realistically we won’t know if there is any truth to it until the signing period comes about for West Ham. However, putting rumors and what-ifs aside, let us take a look at how or if Martin Braithwaite would even work at West Ham.

For starters, the Danish international is currently enjoying an “ok” season in La Liga playing in 27 matches, scoring 6 times, and assisting once for both CD Leganés and FCB. Statistically speaking, West ham could use 6 more goals in their portfolio but that doesn’t answer the whole question especially since moving to Barcelona where he has played 3 times since moving.

Braithwaite traditionally plays in a center-forward role but has played both left-wing and on the right-wing as well as second-striker this season in La Liga for both clubs. His abilities to shift all over the attacking side of the pitch must be enticing but the Hammers are pretty packed in all of those slots except for at the forward slot.

But even still, if the Hammers did sign him would he be good enough this time around in the EPL to take Michail Antonio’s slot or even dethrone Sebastien Haller? Doubtful only do to how those two have linked up well and Braithwaite’s rather green experience in English Football.

He did enjoy 8 goals in 36 matches for Middlesbrough but was on loan more the club than he was actually at it. His direct style of play has always seen him do well wherever he has been but he just doesn’t seem like a good fit. Maybe it is due to the current squad playing well at the moment or the fact that he was linked before and it fell through under other regimes time and time again.

There is no doubt that West Ham needs to add more firepower to their attacking front this summer but this Dane shouldn’t be on their list. He is a solid player with international experience but it just doesn’t seem that he would find a solid home in East London.
