2) Payet v Middlesbrough

This is the only goal in the list that was scored during the 2016/17 season, Payet’s final half-season at West Ham.

After a poor start to the season, any buzz that London Stadium may have given the club had quickly eradicated as Slaven Bilic’s men couldn’t find the form of the previous season at the Boleyn.

As the Hammers were losing 1-0 at home to Middlesbrough, Payet had quite frankly had enough. Having received the ball on the touchline from a Winston Reid pass, Dimi dazzled his way past five defenders – making a number of them fall on their backsides – before slotting the ball past a helpless goalkeeper.

This was one of the last moments of magic that London Stadium was treated too before he returned to Marseille the following January, but it was certainly one to remember.

1) Payet v Crystal Palace

Number one had to be special to best the previous additions to the list. And it was.

With the ball planted just outside the penalty area, it looked too close for Payet to be able to get the ball up and down to beat Palace’s seven-man wall. The Frenchman thought differently, though, and somehow made the seemingly impossible possible.

The Eagles fans cheered as it looked as though it was heading into their stand before it dipped and planted itself into Wayne Hennessey’s net, leaving the previously gloating away fans in a state of awe. For pure invention and uniqueness, it is without doubt one the greatest freekick’s witnessed in the Premier League era.
