West Ham: Felipe Anderson adds confusion to the board keeping or selling him
A significant question that will be difficult for West Ham this summer will be the selling or keeping of one of their major signings and key attackers.
That player, of course, is Felipe Anderson and he leaves West Ham fans and more importantly, the board, in a tough situation this summer as many will wonder what to do with the Brazilian attacker. On one hand, he’s not performed. On the other, he has shown moments of brilliance.
His ups and downs in East London have led him to 11 goals, 10 assists, and 64 matches played in all competitions. Clearly the bulk of his stats have come from last season as this year the Hammers have only seen 1 goal and 5 assists in all comps come from him… second-year slump anyone?
Starting with the downs of Felipe’s career at West Ham and you won’t have to look very far. Besides being out over the past month with a back injury, he has been really nonexistent this year and it has nothing to do with anyone around him on the pitch, just him and his lack of finishing.

Not so much finishing as in scoring but just finishing the play. The major frustration with fans is that you can clearly see him giving up and putting his head down after any mistake made. Maybe its a lack of confidence or care but either way, he is hurting himself and making it very appealing for the board to cash in on him this summer.
The other side of Anderson is the exciting side… the fun to watch side and really the side that we all want to watch and see. His electric nutmegs and all-around pizzazz down the left side have been what’s been missing at West Ham and when he’s been on, nobody is better.
His electrifying performance against Man United last season or when he saved the Southampton match are all signs that point up for him… but do they overshine the inadequate, the absent, and the overwhelming disappointment from the current season?
Performances aside, Pablo Fornals has come in and reinstated himself into the West Ham lineup and essentially in Felipe’s role. They both add different abilities but Fornals clicks all of the right boxes that Anderson doesn’t, making it an even more complicated puzzle to figure out.
Transfermarkt.com values him at around £36 million which is really fair honestly with how this season has gone and would be a nice weight back in the pockets of the owners. Pending they spend it well on a replacement or a need at the club.
