West Ham got back to winning ways on Saturday with a dominant win over Southampton at the London Stadium. Among a bunch of great performances, Jeremy Ngakia has lifted the spirits of both the squad and the fans.

It is never easy to come into the Premier League as a 19-year-old. The difficulty of the task is heightened even more when you’re scraping in a relegation dogfight for West Ham United. For Jeremy Ngakia, he has handled both of these issues incredibly well and has shown all Irons fans why he should be the first choice right-back for the foreseeable future.

Ngakia has looked calm and composed since he came into the side, something that many players his age struggle with. Ngakia has already played in some huge games for the Hammers, specifically, his performance against Liverpool was particularly eye-opening.

After Ryan Fredericks went down with a long-term injury, many Hammers fans were dreading Pablo Zabaleta’s return to the side, as the Argentine simply does not have the pace or the power to keep up in the Premier League anymore. Thankfully for all Hammers fans, Ngakia has stepped up and looks to be West Ham’s new young superstar.

The Hammers will have to win a few more games this season in order to stay in the Premier League, and performances similar to the ones Ngakia has been giving lately is the hope that this club and fan-base needs. We are looking for hungry players willing to work for the badge and the club. Ngakia has embodied this lately and is quickly becoming a fan favorite in East London.

There is a long way to go for the Hammers to get to safety this season, but Southampton’s performance gives me hope that the squad can put together enough quality performances to survive this season. Ngakia has been at the heart of this revitalization of the squad, and the hope is that the boys keep the momentum and try to pick up some more wins.
