As the imminent return of Felipe Anderson for West Ham looms ever closer, will it be much to do about nothing? Or will he make a huge splash in his return?

West Ham United’s former record signing has been sidelined since January 10th when he was taken off against Sheffield United. For Felipe Anderson, this season has definitely been one of the lows and very little highs as his second season in the EPL has been stumbling from the get-go.

The impressive attacking Brazilian has the talent and has the ability but his heart and desire have always come into question… even by us at times. But it’s funny when you look at the position that the Hammers are in because now he would be needed back and wanted more than ever.

With his return to football already happening in the training ground and him getting a nod on the bench last week at City, it’s only a matter of time until he finally sees the pitch. And when he does… he needs to take advantage of the opportunity.

Interestingly enough, the past two times that Felipe hasn’t seen even the bench this season, he came back with some of his best football. Whether it’s just coincidence or maybe his heart gets back into it, whatever the case he always seems to come back with a little extra giddyup.

Three of his four assists came in five matches after he was sat out after the Brighton match earlier this season and in just three matches after being out against Southampton, he scored and assisted. If history repeats itself, then either during or sometime after the Liverpool match, he should be poised to get back to it.

If he can return well and get back into it, the rest of the squad should benefit. With the likes of a hopefully returning Pablo Fornals and the newly acquired Tomas Soucek, Anderson could slide into that left side and push the game along… of course, that is if he decides to do it because the skill is there.

The combo of him, Sebastien Haller, and either Bowen or Michail Antonio on the right side seems lovely on paper and could prove to be a huge turning point if commanded correctly. So yes, he is poised for a huge return but yes, it will be all on him and whether or not he wants to do the work.
