The money will come and money will go but for West Ham, there is only one Delcan Rice. And they must do everything to keep him and keep him happy at the club.

The once struggling West Ham Academy star is now flourishing for both club and country. When a club that isn’t considered top-tier has a player that is, there will always be the constant transfer rumors. And for Declan Rice and the Hammers, there will be a decision to make this summer.

The Hammers are a club that has been rich in tradition and history in the past and with so much of that slowly being stripped away from the club, keeping a “West Ham Man” at the club should be the preference.

Reports are starting to circulate that West Ham’s current gaffer, David Moyes, would be willing to sell the young international but would want at least £90 million for him. Quite a lot of money, yes, but would that be enough to bring in someone of his caliber to fill his dying yet needed role?

In my biased opinion, no. But with that being said, if the club goes down to relegation this season then the club would be hard-pressed to keep Deccers. Not to mention that if the Hammers go down they will lose the current loanee of Tomas Soucek. Leaving the defensive midfield depleted.

The times have gone and past of “one club players” but with the hope and promise that Rice could be the clubs next Mark Noble, they must do everything in their power to keep him. Rice is a dying breed of defensive midfielders and would him leaving would begin a hole in the core of the club.

Nobes only has a few years left and with the unknowns of young boys like Josh Cullen to fill the void, the club would be left in a crisis that is troublesome to dig out of particularly if relegated. You see, leaving someone like Rice go won’t just empty a hole in the defense but a void in the intact squad from top to bottom.

As previously mentioned, relegation is a real issue and if the Hammers are dropped then they will have very little chance to keep the budding star but if there is a chance to make an immediate return to the EPL, he would be the only chance at helping the club do that. Call it negative or not, but its the plain truth.

For all of you out there that say there is no player bigger than the club, you’re right. However, letting Declan Rice leave in the summer would be the start of a descent that might be detrimental to the club’s history, commitment, and future. The money would be nice to invest but ultimately, is it worth it?
