TRANSFER UPDATE: The window is closed, how did West Ham fare?
We would be remiss to say good luck and Bon voyage to all of the players leaving either on a permanent move or loan for the rest of the season but now it’s time to get on to the West Ham transfers in this window.
Darren Randolph
Details: Bought from Middlesbrough for £4m
The always trustworthy Darren Randolph made his return to the Claret and Blue this season after taking a few years off. He was brought back due to the Hammer’s goalkeeping instability either due to injury or lack of skill. Either way, it’s good to see him back.
With Fabs now back to full health he will most likely be a week in and week out substitute but West Ham are in good hands with him as their backup. His experience and skills will be a great addition to the locker room as well.
Tomáš Souček
Details: On loan from Slavia Prague for £3.8m now
with a further £17.5m if West Ham can stay up
The 24-year-old Czech international has been brought to East London on a temporary basis but if the Hammers can stay up this season he can be bought for a permanent fee. Tomáš Souček comes to the Hammers with both international and Champions League experience.
So far this season the box to box midfielder has scored 12 goals with 3 assists in all competitions. Those are high numbers for a guy that is predominantly a defensive midfielder but with his addition, here’s to hoping he and Rice can link up well together.
Jarrod Bowen
Details: Bought from Hull City for £22m
If you had about 18 hours of your day to just sit around and stare at Twitter, then you probably would have been fixated on the Jarrod Bowen saga. Was he coming? Where is he? Will the Hammers get it across the line in time?
The answer to all of those questions was obviously yes and Bowen brings the much-needed attacking skill that West Ham so direly needs. This season alone he has scored 17 times and assisted 6 times as well. The long-awaited transfer will hopefully fix the long-awaited need.
Depending on how you look at it, Randolph, Souček, and Bowen might not have been the household names that many expected but it fixed three of the 5 needs for West Ham. The hole has been fixed, now the new Hammers need time and support to grow into their new roles.
