After a brutal 4-1 loss to Leicester City, many West Ham fans are now seriously faced with the prospect of a relegation battle this season. Can the Hammers do enough to stay up?

As I type this article, I seriously cannot believe it has gotten to this point, but let’s face it, the Hammers are in a relegation dogfight and have a real shot to go down this season. Regardless of who you feel is the main culprit to the failure of the squad this year, the fact of the matter is that the Irons need to get their act together and string together some performances.

West Ham currently find themselves in 17th place on goal differential, but in terms of points, they are tied with Watford and Bournemouth, who currently sit in 18th and 19th. This is a bad look for West Ham, as the club probably had at minimum, a top half of the table finish in mind this season. What can the Hammers do to save themselves from relegation this season?

Well for starters, we need to mix up the starting XI. Most of the squad from the Leicester match was incredibly poor, and I think many of those players need a wake-up call.

If it were up to me, I would try and inject some pace and youth into the team. One of the squads’ biggest issues at the moment is a major lack of pace all around the pitch. Getting some faster players on the field to spark counter-attacks could really help the Irons out.

Another major help to our fight would be to sign a few players before the January window closes. It is very clear to every West Ham fan that this squad lacks a lot of depth in key areas, so it will definitely be important to sure up some key spots before the window closes. I would target Central Midfield and Right-Back as my two key positions we need to upgrade over the next week.

Although West Ham are obviously not in the position we would have hoped, it is still important to back the club and the players. I really think that making a few changes to the XI to freshen things up could help the club start a winning streak that could save our season.
