The West Ham keeper has had a pretty daunting 6 months in East London never really getting settled. The result, he has been sent out on loan for the rest of the season.

Roberto was sent out on loan back to his homeland this morning. We will be joining Alaves who are currently in La Liga according to the West Ham official page. It has also been reported that this stop will be a proving ground in hopes of a follow on transfer in the summer.

The Spanish keeper was the first transfer in last summer with hopes that he would be the short answer to the backup keeper questions. Well, in typical West Ham fashion he was not and the one he replaces, Adrian, he been lighting it up for the league leaders in Liverpool.

To make matters worse for Roberto, after just 8 league matches and an atrocious Carabao Cup match he was benched for the third-string keeper David Martin. You see, this loan move was needed for both him and the club, I’m just surprised that it happened.

Possibly another reason this loan went down was because of another goalkeeper acquisition, the 3rd this season, in the form of returning star Darren Randolph. The Republic of Ireland international player was brought in to the Hammers for the 2nd time in his career and might’ve helped solidify the move out for Roberto.

Between the solid play from both Randolph and Martin, there was no way that Roberto was going to find himself back in net this season. And with the hope that Lukasz Fabianski will return sooner than later only made this move easier.

The club that he is going to is currently sitting in 14th in the La Liga table but aren’t out of the woods yet so they will be sure to use their new loaned in keeper as the club simply put, “we wish all the very best on his loan spell.”
