West Ham ownership must take it upon themselves to excite the fan-base
By Jay Korman
As we head into the latter half of the 2019-2020 Premier League season, the Hammers find themselves in a relegation battle and are in major need of squad reinforcements.
Before this season started, I don’t think any Hammers fans would have thought that West Ham would be in the position they are currently in, and how low they are in the Premier League table. The Irons currently find themselves in 16th place with 22 points, one point above the relegation zone. The squad needs major reinforcements, not just to help the team stay in the Premier League, but to also give the incredibly passionate Hammers fans something to be excited about.
To this West Ham fan, the club seems to be marred in negativity right now. Most fans are very upset at the way the club has been managed this year, and that has come down to ownership and transfer policy.
If the Irons are going to get anything out of this season, ownership must take it upon themselves to really invest in the team this January window, and make sure that West Ham has the proper squad in place to ensure that this season does not turn from disappointment to complete disaster.
The fact that relegation is even in the conversation regarding the current state of West Ham makes me sick to my stomach as a supporter. Although the team does have some very talented and highly rated players such as Felipe Anderson, Haller, and Pablo Fornals, the fact of the matter is that the Hammers have some huge holes in their squad that it seems ownership is not willing to address.
The Hammers seemed to be in on Benfica’s highly-rated young midfield Gedson Fernandes, but after his decision to sign with Spurs, it seems that once again the board will settle for a cheaper alternative such as Joe Allen.
If this club is going to take a step forward and really start to compete, we simply cannot act this way in the transfer window. We need to start making investments on young talent each transfer window in key positions in the squad, something we have failed to do over the past couple of years.
It is not easy to be a West Ham fan right now as we have not had much to cheer about in this tough, lost season. I’m not going to say the Hammers need to turn it around and win the FA Cup this year, but ownership must at least show us that they care about this club, and give us a signing that will lift fans spirits and start to get this great club we all love back on the right track.
