If there was ever any thought that West Ham was no longer the Academy of Football, this week’s news tells a different story. Two smart choices for two young blossoming stars.

Three days into the January transfer window and West Ham should be making their first move of the window according to the ever trustworthy ExWHUemployee. However, that is only the first part of this good news story.

The second part of the news coming out of West Ham is that another Academy star is about to get a contract renewal that will not only keep him a happy Hammer but it will keep other clubs at bay. Which two stars are we referring to? Nathan Holland and Conor Coventry.

As far as Holland goes, many were starting to wonder what would happen with him now the David Moyes has taken over the club with the understanding that he wanted to grow the club around young and pacey players.

More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

It seems that we have gotten the news as he looks to be heading to Oxford United after this weekend’s FA Cup match. Oxford is currently striving for promotion in League One and of course, no one needs reminding what they did to West Ham earlier this season in the Carabao Cup.

This move will be good for the youngster as he will surely get playtime as Oxford will be pushing on. For the Hammers and Holland himself, it would be good to get him first-team playtime against senior team competitions to get ready for the future.

As for Connor Coventry and his future at the club, it seems that he will get a well-rewarded contract extension. The same ITK that broke the news on Holland has broken this headline that by the end of the week it will happen.

Coventry hasn’t featured for the senior side in the EPL this season but he got some playtime in the Carabao Cup and even though West Ham wants to push on in the FA Cup, there should be a spot for him to show what he is capable of.

The young Irish international has been impressive not only for the U23s and but the Republic of Ireland’s international side. Just like with Holland, Coventry also possesses pace and skill and hopefully, Moyes will at least want to see what he can do before loaning him out as well.

The Academy Stars have been synonymous with each other this past year as they have risen through the ranks. Getting them out and moving towards the right direction is a bright move for the club and will only keep the Academy moving and giving others promise and direction.
