Robert Snodgrass has been West Ham’s engine so far this season
If you could one West Ham player that would give you his all for 90 minutes every match and day in and day out, it would be Robert Snodgrass and so far this season, he has been nothing but exciting.
For Robert Snodgrass, his time at West Ham hasn’t always been the best but he has pushed through like the little engine that could and kept on pushing. This season is no different as he was all but guaranteed a spot on the bench only to win his starting role back.
So far this season Bob has played in 14 matches total scoring twice and getting one assist. Out of 17 EPL matches he’s played or at least featured in 12 of them with more time coming since the slide after the Everton match.
On paper, it’s hard to see that he is a game-changer, especially with West Ham only getting 7 points out of a possible 21 since his return to the starting XI but what he does do, is everything else. From pressuring defenses and keepers, to constantly running wild, and probably and most importantly sending in great corners and crosses.
Snoddy has averaged 2 key crosses a match and everyone should be able to spot the differences West Ham have made on corner kicks since his return. To say he has been instant impact and instant relief to the issue might not be true but you could almost sense a different presence when he was on the pitch.
Besides Mark Noble, it is clear that Robert Snodgrass loves this club and earns respect above most other players. That was never more apparent than after then Hammers loss to Wolves when he stated:
"“For my chance, I took a good first touch, the second I tried to go on my left and the keeper’s just come out and done well. I’m disappointed because it’s a chance I should have taken, and have done most of my career. ”"
That loss weighed heavily on his shoulders and you can tell the passion and drive that it gave him to do better. To say that Snoddy is world-class might be too far-fetched but he is certainly playing well above what was expected out of him at the beginning of the season.
It was expected that he would be a squad player and a cup starter this season but very few ever expected him to be coming out of the tunnel week in and week out for the Hammers. The pitch is his canvas from this point on and he will be a pivotal part of this squad for the rest of the season.
