To say that Pablo Fornals would be a key player in the midfield for West Ham sounded like a fantasy last month. Now it seems much more realistic and true.
Going even further in-depth, Pablo Fornals could become a star for the club and really help push that midfield going forward. I mean honestly, who would’ve thought that after the way he disappointedly started the season for West Ham?
Going back to the beginning of the season, you will find that he surprisingly has played in every match except for the Newcastle match at the beginning of November. However, you won’t find anything to overly impressive until you look about 4 weeks ago.
After somewhat disappointing, once again, in the Burnley match, he came on and help the Hammers come back to at least make the Spurs match look close. From there, he propelled the starting XI to an impressive win at Chelsea followed up by an exciting December (for him anyway).
What is funny enough, as the boys on The West Ham Way USA Podcast pointed out, is that Fornals was unselfish at the beginning of the season when we all asked him to shoot. Now, we see that his game is about passing to the open man and setting up opportunities.

In the past 4 matches, he has added 3 assists to his stat total this season and has gotten much more aggressive in defense. That aggression and confidence have obviously taken time, but now that they are in full effect, lookout.
His role in the midfield might not yet be fully but this much we know; he’s got good speed, he can defend, and he knows how to lay off a pass to the open man. Although the points aren’t quite there at the moment for West Ham, his presence has made a change and for the better.
Over the past few months, the Hammers have looked flat as they thoughtfully awaited the healthy return of Manuel Lanzini. Well, that might not be needed at the Argentinian might be fighting Fornals for time as the once crowded midfield yet weak midfield might be building up.
Yes, his overall body of work doesn’t speak for itself just yet but football is won and lost on form and right now, Pablo Fornals has that form and he is helping the Hammers in the process of it.
