West Ham United: Three quick changes that could fix the Hammers
After another dismal West Ham performance leaving fans wanting change, could it be as easy as 3 simple changes to fix everything? If so, why hasn’t it happened?
That question is yet to be decided but one thing is for certain, if West ham and Manuel Pellegrini don’t turn it around against Southampton, it might be the end for the Chilean and his time in East London. However, with all this in mind with just a few tweaks things could turn out potentially better.
Change #1
Quite possibly the most talked-about option is a change in formation. It might not need to be a permanent thing but to get the better of the opponent. Very often have we ever seen Pellers decide to change-up his formations which have caused concern for more than one reason.
It’s not uncommon for managers to have a certain style and stick to it, but when the club has only won once in the past 2 months, things need to change and if they don’t, that should be 100% on the manager. It’s an easy switch that if done right, could lead to a good string of matches.
Change #2
The attacking front has been weak since about midway through August and it seems that they have lost their will to push. That can mean one or two things. Either Pellegrini has instructed them to playback and get the ball in through solid passing or they have just lost confidence from not doing it.
Last season West ham was successful at pushing up via the wings and taking their opponents on. Through the speed of Felipe Anderson and the strength of Andriy Yarmolenko and Michail Antonio, they made this happen and it worked. However, this season we haven’t seen this and it has made that attack suffer as well as the midfield overworked.

Change #3
To be able to play in today’s game, you need to be able to think on the fly. Manuel Pellegrini and the rest of the squad haven’t been able to do that this season. Whether it’s a sub from the other team that changes up the opponent or just proper scouting, this hasn’t been accomplished and the stats show it.
The Hammers have once again lost a lead in the second half and it’s becoming a trend. Either Pellegrini has lost his touch or he and his staff just want to stick to the game plan that was put in play, it’s not working. You stick to what is working if it’s working but when it’s not, you have to switch it up.
Understanding that with all this in mind, playing the armchair manager is the easiest coaching role there is but this seems like it is common sense and could be used to both save West Ham from a potential relegation battle and quite possibly Manuel Pellegrini’s job. Although, it might be too late for the latter of the two anyway.
