West Ham player grades take an embarrassing step back against Wolves
The roller coaster of a season continued for West Ham yesterday as they were brought back down to earth when they traveled to Wolverhampton Wednesday night.
After a big win over the weekend, we all expected West Ham to keep the momentum going against Wolves but it was anything else and the player grades reflected just that as Manuel Pellegrini now sits back on the hot seat.
Grades from 0 to 10
Martin
Last Week: 7.8 MOTM
This Week: 7.2
Analysis: David Martin possibly played a better match statistically then he did against Chelsea and yet lost this one. The 2 goals in were basically unstoppable and he made on more than one occasion solid stops.
Fredericks
Last Week: 7.2
This Week: 6.1
Analysis: Unfortunately for Ryan Fredericks, he had a few bad plays in this match. He was the one to blame for the Dendoncker goal and didn’t play well on Jonny for most of the match. This was a bad week for him.
Ogbonna
Last Week: 7.2
This Week: 7.2
Analysis: It was more of the same from Angelo Ogbonna as he stayed very casual and calm in his role. He won a key aerial ball and made a key tackle to help the line and Martin.
Balbuena
Last Week: 7.3
This Week: 6.2

Analysis: His sole mistake of the match came on Wolves’ second goal but other than that Fabian Balbuena played a solid match. He kept it simple and it paid off for the most part.
Cresswell
Last Week: 7.3
This Week: 6.1
Analysis: Poor Aaron Cresswell couldn’t do anything to stop Adama Traore and he knew it especially in the second half. Because of the pace of Wolves, you didn’t see him attack as much and the affected his entire match.
Rice
Last Week: 7.3
This Week: 7.1
Analysis: This match showed a tale of two halves for the Hammers English international. His tackle in the first half set the tone but honestly not much more happened for Declan Rice in this one.
Noble was subbed off in the 70th minute
Last Week: 6.6
This Week: 6.3
Analysis: Mark Noble had the biggest turn around in status coming from the Chelsea match to this match. Both Joao Moutinho and Diego Jota made him look slow and took him out of his game forcing him to leave early.
Holland subbed on for Noble
Subbed Grade: 6
Analysis: Nathan Holland showed a willingness to run at the opposition but that was it in a somewhat disappointing EPL debut.
Snodgrass subbed off in the 60th minute
Last Week: 7.2
This Week: 6.1
Analysis: McMessi was up to his usual antics on the pitch taking on player after player during this one, however, he missed a shot that needed to go in and his set-pieces looked shaky at best. Not his best day.
Yarmolenko subbed on for Snodgrass
Subbed Grade: 5.5
Analysis: In all honesty, you didn’t get to see or hear much of Andriy Yarmolenko as he was pretty nonexistent in this match.
Fornals
Last Week: 6.8
This Week: 6.9
Analysis: Pablo Fornals made four excellent runs in the first half to drag Matt Doherty out of position but his first touch and decision-making let him down a few times. He did put a beauty on net and setup Robert Snodgrass once. The best news is that he is growing.
Anderson
Last Week: 6.9
This Week: 7.9
Analysis: Felipe Anderson seemed to get the ball rolling early in this one as he was able to split the Wolves apart with ease. He is getting back to the Anderson of old but curious to see how long he stays in the number 10 role.
Haller subbed off in the 80th minute
Last Week: 6.5
This Week: 5.9
Analysis: After not starting last week it was presumed that he would come out and be ready to go for West Ham. The presumption was wrong as he looked lost and disinterested. Let’s all hope the Antonio is healthy going forward.
Ajeti subbed on for Haller
Subbed Grade: 5
Analysis: Lets grade Albian Ajeti at a 5 simply because he didn’t do anything spectacular or anything bad. He had zero impact on this match.
WhoScored.com gave the Hammers an overall team rating of 6.43 which has been about average for West Ham this season. An average score for a below-average team at the moment and with Arsenal just days away, something better change and fast.
