Historic club, strong English contingent to the team, academy side with solid talent, 60,000 seat stadium, owners who are feeling pressure to spend – why wouldn’t Sean Dyche want to come to London and manage West Ham?

The ever-reliable West Ham ITK, ExWHUemployee, confirmed on Twitter today that the Dyche, the current manager of Burnley is interested in the potential vacancy at manager for West Ham. With the club’s eighth match in a row without a win, the vultures are starting to circle Pellegrini, but Dyche’s name is a bit of a surprise.

It’s clear that the Hammers need defensive stability, and Dyche would bring this almost immediately. 20 goals have been conceded in the 8-game winless streak, including a 3-0 loss to Dyche’s Burnley squad. His stout defensive team proved resilient and hard to break down for the Hammers and the rest of the Premier League with the Clarets sitting seventh in the table, having conceded just 18 goals.

So, with Burnley sitting five points and nine positions above West Ham in the table, why would Dyche want to come to West Ham. Money. Not just for himself in what would probably be a lucrative move, but for him to spend. Dyche has had his financial wings clipped at Burnley, despite their Europa League qualification a season prior.

Burnley spent just £15m this past summer, leaving them fourth from the bottom in Premier League spending in the summer window. No matter how strong a side is, improvements can always be made, Burnley are no exception. That being said, even when Burnley were prepping for Europa League football they spent just £42m on three players to insulate their squad.

David Sullivan, David Gold, and Karen Brady have sold the Boleyn Ground and promised next level football. They’ve essentially talked themselves into being active in the transfer windows moving forward, as any team who wants to contend for European football should be. Dyche would be the beneficiary of this and could finally get his hands on more and higher quality players with a bigger budget.

West Ham would be insane not to look deeply into Dyche as an immediate replacement for Manuel Pellegrini. He is a manager who prioritizes defense, which the Hammers need, and whose managerial structure took an unlikely Burnley team to the Europa League. Plus, if the rumors are true, he initiated the conversation on coming to the team showing he’s up for the challenge. If they miss on him for a lesser target it would surely be a mistake that they would regret in the near future.
