Eddie Howe would be the best answer to West Ham’s Pellegrini struggles

West Ham are in a downward spiral and, as much as I supported Pellegrini in the beginning, he seems devoid of ideas. To change this, we should be hiring current Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe.

A few games into the season and West Ham seemed to be on the up. We were keeping it tight at the back, finishing off the chances we created and we actually had a happy home. But now the team looks devoid of ideas, we have a keeper who wouldn’t be out of place in Sunday League and the fans are turning on the manager.

Usually I would be on the side of the manager claiming the players need to step up and sort it, but the changes Pellegrini has made have inspired no confidence, and there has been no action to sort the systemic issues we have seen in the side. West Ham need Eddie Howe.

More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

Why Howe? He’s not a big club name, and he hasn’t won a major trophy (The championship does not count). But whilst Bournemouth have not pushed onto the European spots in recent years they have played exciting football with homegrown talent and a strong youth focus in recent years. Eddie Howe has been instrumental in those outcomes, and these are the things that Hammers fans want from their club. It seems like a simple match.

Obviously the question then turns to whether he would join. There are Hammers fans who think we’re obviously a bigger club and therefore have the power, but it’s not that simple. Bournemouth are a fun club to be involved with at the moment, and Howe is an ex player with strong ties to the club that extend beyond his management. It would be hard for anyone with that connection to up and leave, and West Ham is a tough club to deal with. We have a demanding fan base, an unbalanced squad and strong-willed owners, it’s not exactly the rosiest of opportunities.

If the owners DO decide to pay off Pellegrini, AND pay Howe out of his contract, I still think he will want certain promises to leave his place of comfort. And with it we will have one of the most exciting young managers around, and one with a lot of ambition to build on his existing Premier League experience. We will have players dribbling at pace, looking to move the ball and excite the fans. I don’t think any other manager we could potentially hire has had that on display so consistently throughout the last few years.  If the Hammers want to play the West Ham way, Howe is the man.
