Chris Hughton

Age: 60

Currently Without a Club

Born and raised in Stratford, England, this move seems to be somewhat close to home for the Irishman. His links to West Ham run deeper than just being born there, however. Chris Hughton played for West Ham for two seasons from 1990 – 1992 but only ever saw the pitch twice.

Hughton, a veteran of managing in the EPL, is currently not coaching anywhere for the first time since 1993 when he was in charge of the Tottenham Hotspur U18’s. His previous successes have made him wanted so it comes to no surprise that there are already links to him going to the Hammers.

Although Hughton had been a part of many Premier League quality sides, he never officially got a managerial gig until 2009 when he finally took over for Newcastle United. In 398 matches in charge over his career, his sides won 178 of them leaving him with a career winning percentage of 44.7%

At the moment many fans around West Ham would love to have that kind of winning percentage and why not? Hughton’s team, although a bit boring and lackluster, always played well together even at the expense of attacking football.

More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

The out of work manager will find a new job soon, you can count on that, but he does come with the same red flags that Rafa Benitez does. An aging veteran manager that has tendencies of defensive and safe football isn’t what is wanted or needed in East London at the moment and hiring him would hopefully only be a short-term idea.

The only problem with that idea and in fact the hiring of either of these men would be taking a step back. Bringing in a caretaker manager or trying to bring life from someone in the past will only hurt the Hammers, not propel them into something better. Something that has been promised, something that the sole of an entire club needs, not hurts.

Next. Recap the latest West Ham match. dark

At the current moment, the entire West Ham world sits and waits to see what will happen in the coming weeks. Will it be Rafa or Hughton? Or will the likes of a younger manager step into the role? Either way, Pellegrini seems to be lost with no hope of bouncing back and something needs to happen soon before West Ham has even worse consequences to bounce back from.
