With the international break upon us, there isn’t much team news outside of club players excelling, failing, or getting hurt representing their home nations. For West Ham, however, their second striker could be hard at work.

The Swiss international hasn’t had much of a fair shake at West Ham so far into his Hammers’ career. With just four matches and 90 total minutes of Premier League action, it’s safe to say we still have no idea what Albian Ajeti can truly offer. He was good enough for FC Basel, good enough to score in Champions League matches, and is good enough to be an integral part of a scrappy Swiss international team.

With the offense drying up at West Ham currently, surely Ajeti will get a shake at being the batterymate for Sebastien Haller in a dual-striker system. Until we see this, though, Ajeti can impact the team by recruiting his two Swiss friends to come to East London in January.

Granit Xhaka

You want some grit and a player who will get stuck in in the midfield? Look no further than former Arsenal captain, Granit Xhaka. The box-to-box midfielder does check the physicality box that the Hammers need, but he’s a player who prioritizes defensive responsibility over jumping up in the attack too far. Yes, he is a bit of a headcase on the pitch but he seems to be a family man off of it and could bring some fear to the opposition’s eyes on West Ham.

More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

He’s just gone through a pretty brutal event as well. After being named Arsenal captain, Xhaka was booed off the pitch recently after a poor performance and egged on the fans to keep it coming before taking off his shirt and heading down the tunnel. He later revealed some brutal and unacceptable threats via social media that he’s received as well.

Another aspect of his game that is needed is the presence of a midfield goal threat via his long shots. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t but in every instance, Xhaka has his opponent’s attention when he’s lining up a long shot because of how pure he can hit them.

Motivated to prove Arsenal wrong and able to still live in London, Ajeti’s Instagram pal Xhaka would be a welcomed addition to West Ham. Not to mention, in the Summer Arsenal sold another former captain, David Luiz to cross-London Chelsea for just 8m, so the Hammers could get a steal here.

Breel Embolo

Another link, lesser know than perhaps Xhaka, is the striker Breel Embolo who is currently playing at Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga in Germany. The center-forward is currently on international duty with Ajeti and Xhaka and has given some love to Ajeti and the Hammers on a recent Instagram post.

Maybe we’re reading too much into this but Embolo’s “Hammers *crossed hammers* *heart eyes*” comment is pretty awesome. Maybe he was just welcoming his striker partner back to the international team and recognizing where he’s coming from, but maybe Embolo wants to join up with Ajeti in club football too!

Currently, with three goals and one assist in nine matches for Monchengladbach, Breel Embolo is proving a strong, young, exciting player in the Bundesliga. I doubt we see big cash splashed for a striker in January, but keep this name in the back of your memory as Director of Football Ajeti could be pulling some strings with his Swiss teammates.
