All of this negative talk surrounding West Ham is warranted, but they still have the talent to win on the road at Burnley, they just have to do change some things.

West Ham and Burnley don’t have much history, do they? All joking aside this matchup is and seemingly always will be a tough matchup. Sean Dyche’s teams are always coached well, so what’s the secret? How can West Ham handle this task of changing their fortunes?

The secret is honestly really simple and has been a topic of discussion all week both here at the GSH and around the West Ham world. West Ham can use past flaws and past successes to win as well as a few other simple fixes.

On paper, the Hammers are the better side, however, you wouldn’t know by watching them play. They have had a plethora of possession so far this season but it has turned into nothing over the past few weeks. If Pellegrini switches up the formation to maybe a 4-4-2, that will give Manuel Lanzini more freedom roam in the midfield and give Sebastien Haller a strike partner.

In the past when these two met the Hammers ran a 4-4-2. On that day it didn’t work out do to there once again being a lack of heart and pressure. But, if you put Albian Ajeti next to Haller that will free him up to do his thing. That thing he does is hold the play well and feed players around him if there are players around him that is.

The defense has been subject at best and it comes from a lack of trust in the goalkeeper as well. At this point, over a month, with Roberto at the helm, the team should be at least getting behind him and finding a way to work as a unit, not a disorganized bunch of prima donnas.

Roberto might not be a world-class keeper but he needs to do much better to even get the label of an “ok” keeper. Of course, the Hammers could try third-string keeper David Martin if times get too hard. But either way, this team is filled with professionals that need to work together and get the backline stable. If this can happen, once again, West Ham wins easily.

Lastly, the entire team needs to get back to where they were two months ago, moving and working as one with fluidity. Hammers fans have seen it in the past and so you know it can happen, it’s just not happening. Keep the fluidity up, pass well, attack better, and use the possession better.

Three simple “secrets” to win this match. Of course, it mostly falls on if Pellers can get the lads up for it and obviously that he sees the issues and fixes them. If not, West Ham is looking at another loss or at best another hard-fought, disappointing draw.
