West Ham United need a total starting XI overhaul before next week

After the Hammers loss to Newcastle over the weekend, West Ham has dropped to 13th in the Premier League table, and have not won in their last 5 Premier League matches. Manuel Pellegrini has no choice but to completely overhaul the starting XI.

There’s a common saying that people use when things are going well, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Well for West Ham United right now, it is broken and needs fixing. Manuel Pellegrini’s side is in dire need of a new lineup and a fresh new system to help them get out of this poor run of form.

Here are some ideas that I think could help the Irons get back on a winning track in the Premier League:

Re-insert Angelo Ogbonna into the XI– Many Hammers fans were absolutely mystified when Ogbonna was dropped for Balbuena over the past couple of games. The Italian defender has been one of West Ham’s most consistent performers this season and should be helping anchor down the back-line next to Issa Diop. He simply must start the next match.

King Arthur shall return– Although Aaron Cresswell has not played horribly, this is a change I believe could inject some pace into a rather lackluster West Ham side at the moment. Masuaku’s return to the XI could help with the attack, in particular helping Haller get the service he needs to score goals in this league. The Irons would suffer defensively from this change, but Pellegrini must take risks at this stage in the season.

Give Holland a shot– One of the bright spots for West Ham this season has been the development of Nathan Holland. West Hams 21-year-old winger has tallied 8 goals and 5 assists in 10 matches in PL2 for the U23s.

With Felipe Anderson struggling to get anything going this season, I don’t think it would hurt to try to inject some youth into the team to try to see if the attack can start firing on all cylinders with some new pieces. Overall, Manuel Pellegrini has to make some changes to the XI for this weekend’s match against Burnley.

The main XI’s he has used this season are starting to grow stale, and the Hammers have simply invested too much money into their attack for it to be this poor over the past couple of weeks. Let’s hope Pellegrini makes some of these changes and it kick-starts the lads to win a couple of matches in a row, and get back on track this season.
