Aaron Cresswell saying that West Ham doesn’t need to panic is absurd
The West Ham left-back, Aaron Cresswell, spoke after the defeat at home to Newcastle last Saturday. His comments, shocking and absurd at best and a cause for concern for the Hammers.
With West Ham United’s 3-2 defeat is means that the Hammers are five games without a win. The Irons’ side were three goals behind after 51 minutes courtesy of Ciaran Clark, Frederico Fernandez, and Jonjo Shelvey all netting for the free-flying Magpies.
Although the words “panic” never left the veteran left-backs mouth, the thought and mindset were there. The one thing that all will agree on is when he stated that ‘”all teams go through tough patches and we are in one at the minute. We’ve got to put that right and start again on Monday.”
However, starting again on Monday or the next day has been a common theme from these post-match pressers. Whether it’s been from a player of the Gaffer, just getting back to it isn’t enough. For a side that has the quality as West Ham does, they sure aren’t playing up to it at the moment.
If the reassurance of this “start again” theme isn’t concerning enough, Cresswell’s next comments bring up a hint of contradictoriness.
"“We spoke about set-pieces before the game and yet, to concede them, wasn’t good enough. We need to go through it. We’re going through a bad period and we need to stick together.”"

Where is becomes contradictory, if you didn’t catch it, comes from him saying that they focused on set-pieces before the match yet all three of the Newcastle goals came from set-pieces. This “plan” that was put in place didn’t work and it comes down to one of three reasons.
First, a lack of true and honest follow-through on the plan. Two, a genuine lack of skill and talent. Or three, a lack of actual care to the match and what is going on around them. There is no argument that this squad doesn’t have a skill issue, so it comes down to the squads follow through or care or better yet, lack thereof. West Ham has the squad to do it, but do they care enough to get it done?
Better yet, does the Gaffer have the right game plan set up to get it done and is the team following him in it? All this talk about starting fresh and reacting is nice, but when it’s not completed, that is where and when the panic begins to set in.
For a side that started the season with loads of ambition and hope, this is a low place to be at the moment. There must be a change and it has to happen now because guess what, things are only going to get harder from here. Until then, COME ON YOU IRONS!
