Three things to grow on after the West Ham debacle at Everton
The West Ham match this past weekend away at Everton had nothing to write home about. This cannot be a preview for the rest of this season, or can it?
It has been 3 days since the West Ham debacle at Everton and well, many Hammers fans far and wide are still reeling from it and right rightfully so. However, there are two sides to the theory of negativity.
Looking at the current state of affairs surrounding the West Ham play at the moment but really just the past match, things aren’t good. So, let’s look at 3 things West Ham can grow on following the Everton match and look at it with a glass half full mentality.
One: Roberto’s keeper play
In what seems to be a repetitive occurrence around the Hammers, their goalkeeper has a solid day followed by a loss. This is what happened on Saturday as besides leaving in 2 goals, on what where serious letdowns by the defense, Roberto stopped 7 other shots.
If it weren’t for his play in net, the scoreline would’ve easily said 4 or 5 nil. With Fabianski looking to be out until after Christmas, rest assuredly that the Hammers have an “ok” keeper in net. Now just fix the defensive irregularities.
Two: Ogbonna is playing like its 2015.
Everyone around West Ham has been waiting for the Italian international to show back up. It seems that Angelo Ogbonna has done just that and it’s about time. In an all-around dismal effort from the defense, he was somewhat of a shining light.
Oggy continues to be the best center back in the squad which could be concerning or good depending on how you look at it. Yes, his passing was off but so was the rest of the squad leaving that up for question all around. For the Hammers, he needs to stay in form and that can pull the rest of the defense with him.

Three: The Gaffer is ready for a change
The worst thing that can happen to a complacent or failing team is a complacent or failing manager. Luckily for the Hammers, they don’t have either. Manuel Pellegrini is for a lack of better words, upset after this match and he has let it be known.
Co-site expert, Adam Smith, has called for a formation change and that might only be the start. Pellegrini was quoted after the match stating “Maybe in that moment I would make 11 changes if I could.” This is the best thing to grow on after this loss as it could change the entire season ahead for the Hammers.
In all honesty, it can be hard to look back at this match and see anything but darkness and negativity. But this is not the end of the road and with a core of professionals and solid leadership, this squad will bounce back behind its continuing, in form players. Even if they aren’t who we expected them to be.
