The Delorean Chronicles: West Ham v Bournemouth can be concerning
This week as we dive into the way back machine, we look back at the past between West Ham and Bournemouth a matchup that can sometimes, more than others, be tricky.
A trip to the south coast can be physically tough for any squad but a trip to AFC Bournemouth, with the form they are in, will be extremely difficult for West Ham United. And as we look back at the past matchups played not only there but in London.
You have to give the credit, where it is due to the Cherries. Interestingly enough, when you go all the way back to 1929 these two sides have only faced off 13 times against one another. The record for the Hammers in this head to head matchup is 5-4-4, nothing concerning, yet nothing that stands out.
However, history speaks for itself when you look at the most recent matches. Since Bournemouth got promoted to the EPL in 2015, the head to head results look astonishingly different. 2-2-4 is the Hammers record against the Cherries since then and that is only the start of the concerning history.
The last time West Ham won at the Vitality Stadium was in January of 2016 when Valencia scored a brace. Bournemouth has been a side that West Ham seems to struggle with historically, and you don’t have to look very far.

The Hammer’s lack of composure and shape is what had killed them that past few seasons both home and away as the Hammers have as of late played down to the lesser side. This season, however, both sides are playing well and sit right next to each other as we head into the match weekend.
As you look at the title and the first 6 paragraphs of this article, you can see how some history can be a bit negative. But, on the other side of it is a mentality to learn from your past mistakes and grow better from it.
Throwing out the Carabao Cup, which you can do for both teams, West Ham has changed their fortunes this season playing teams lower in the table much better than before. Their shape has improved and the entire starting XI seems in sync.
As we bring the Delorean back to 2019, a few things are for certain. The Hammers haven’t played well at Bournemouth in quite some time and the history makes this matchup look bleak. But with history, you must learn from it only getting better along the way and doing it in style. Until Saturday, COME ON YOUR IRONS!
