Embarrassing, demoralizing, and humiliating. These were just some of the words used by everyone around West Ham Wednesday night after the Hammers got run out of the Carabao Cup against Oxford United.

This narrative, however, will have to change quickly. The Hammers head to the south coast in just 3 days’ time to face the ever difficult Cherries. After West Ham was running on a high after having 3 straight clean sheets and sticking it to Manchester United, that was all put to a halt last night. The Hammers are now left stung by a horrendous loss, looking at how to regroup before the weekend.

As they head into this match on Saturday, there are two good news stories. The first, Bournemouth also last night leaving them wandering and two, most of the team that was on the losing side won’t be starting on Saturday for West Ham. However, having a losing more than winning mentality can stick with you if you let it.

More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

Keeping this mentality around cannot happen because the Hammers will need to be 100% ready going into what is arguably their second-toughest match of the season. Bournemouth away is a hard enough matchup but Eddie Howe has his boys playing well this season making it an even harder matchup for Pellegrini and Co.

It may only be September but sitting 5th in the EPL and with suitable matchups coming up, this is a crucial win for the Hammers. To keep this losing feeling at bay, Pellegrini will have to rely on his skipper to change the locker room around. Mark Noble has done it before and he will have to do it again because some of what we could see last night was frightening when it comes to the squad’s lack of want.

As it was nearly impossible to watch the match due to EFL regulations, it made it difficult to tell how the match really went. However, from reports of fans and writers at the match, it seemed that there were very little movement and people talking back and forth about where to go. That is something that Noble can immediately fix and he will have to.

Three of the most influential players for West Ham this season, Noble, Rice, and Ogbonna, didn’t play and having back their abilities as well as leadership back will help quickly change the mentality void that was their last night. Whatever the case was for the Hammers as they bowed out early, it must be worked on.

For West Ham fans, they must keep the faith that the Gaffer and skipper can do that. No team is perfect but what makes those teams better, is their ability to bounce back and fix the wrongs when they happen. That is what needs to happen going forward for the Hammers, for this week and beyond.
