The Manuel Pellegrini era at West Ham has finally arrived
By Jay Korman
After West Ham dismantled Manchester United at the London Stadium on Sunday, you could feel the energy in the crowd and the excitement of all the players. Manuel Pellegrini and West Ham have arrived on the big stage.
Yes, Manchester United have had a rough start to the season. Yes, Manchester United had a bunch of players miss out due to injury. All anyone in the media seems to talk about is how poor Manchester United played.
This match had nothing to do with the Red Devils, their injuries, or Ole Gunnar Solskjær. This is about Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham United, who look to be one of the most solid teams in the Premier League this season.
The Hammers have been a joy to watch this season thus far, and have shown the entire league that they can win matches in different ways, which is crucial to league success. A prolific attack of Haller, Anderson, Yarmolenko, Lanzini, and Fornals, along with many other solid bench options can frighten opposing teams. The Hammers are a massive threat going forward and can devastate their opponents on the counter.
However, the Hammers are playing some great possession football as well, the Manuel Pellegrini way. The midfield duo of Declan Rice and Mark Noble has been dynamite for the Irons this year, constantly winning the ball back and pushing it up to our forward players.
Noble is still the living and breathing heart of this squad, and his passion and energy on the pitch ignite some incredible performances. Rice is simply incredible. He seems to gain more confidence after each match, and after staking a claim in the center of England’s midfield, will look to keep dominating opposing teams.
By far the most interesting thing about Pellegrini’s squad this year is the back-line. Many fans, myself included, were very worried about the defense before the season began. Issa Diop was always going to be a surefire center-back, however, nobody could have expected Angelo Ogbonna to step in and play some of the best football of his career.
The Hammers are coming off of three straight clean sheets in Premier League matches, and Super Fabianski has been perfect in net, coming up with big saves when the Hammers need them most.
The Hammers currently find themselves in 5th place in the Premier League and have not lost a match since the opening fixture against Man City. The Pellegrini revolution has officially arrived, and boy does it feel good. The Irons look to be a force to be reckoned with this season. Bring on Bournemouth!
