This weekend West Ham United travel to the south coast to face Brighton. Will the Hammers fortunes be turned for the good or stay the course?
Brighton has been a team that West Ham has continually struggled with in recent years. A team that usually is considered below the West Ham standards, Brighton has always seemed to pull through. The GSH staff takes a jab at predicting this one and it looks pretty convincing.
Jay ( 3-1 win)
West Ham will rebound from a tough loss on the opening match-day and claim all three points away at Brighton. Haller, Lanzini, and Wilshere all get on the score sheet as Pellegrini’s offensive attack overpowers the Brighton backline.
Although it will be tough for Haller and company, as Lewis Dunk is a very solid center-back, the Hammers will find a way past the Brighton defense and find a way to get back on track. Hammers fans will be happy this weekend.
Scotty J ( 2-1 win)
Whilst Brighton opened the season strongly I don’t think they’re going to be able to do it consistently. Pellegrini will have watched the tapes from their opening match and have a plan to combat them already, and our personnel is more than capable of taking the game to them.
We need to get more attacking players around the ball in the final third and our quality should be able to shine, but if Cresswell continues to play at the level he did last week then we will have an issue dealing with their new playing style and width. All in all, I think it will be a close match but one that the Hammers will come out on top in.
Louis ( 3-1 win)
I think that, at last, we will get over our curse that we seem to have whenever we play the Seasiders. Having lost 5-0 on our opening game against Man City, while they had a very impressive 3-0 victory away at Watford, it might seem a strange time to think that we will break the hoodoo.
I’m confident that we’ll get a reaction out of our players and they’ll put on a bit of a show. Glenn Murray will come on at some point and score though, obviously.
Jeff ( 2-1 win)
Last October’s loss at Brighton 1-0 was one of the most disappointing moments of the campaign for West Ham in my opinion. The Hammers have not fared well at all against the Seagulls in the top flight: They have won three of four vs WHU and that fourth match ended in a draw. Manuel Pellegrini is also winless against their side in his PL career. And so here we go in Match Day 2 with Brighton having won surprisingly 3-0 while we all know what happened to West Ham vs City last week.
The only positive take away I see from the stats is the fact that Brighton doesn’t score much, and don’t usually score more than one per match at home. A lot has been made of West Ham’s attacking intent, and the many options Pellegrini has at his disposal along the front line. This week is the time to see both the intent, and more importantly, the result for the Hammers. I don’t think it is going to be pretty but I think the Irons get it done here 2-1. COYI!

I imagine this will be a spirited affair between the Hammers and Gulls. West Ham has a point to prove and Brighton wants to keep their momentum rolling from an impressive 3-0 win over Watford.
The new kids will likely be making an impact in this one, too. West Ham should line up in their 4-1-4-1 with Antonio returning to the bench for Fornals in the stacked midfield formation the Hammers used in the preseason. I don’t know exactly what to expect from Brighton; they overachieved on their season-opening win, but could they roll over the Irons? It’s possible.
A goal-full affair is what I see coming, hopefully, it ends in a West Ham win!
Jeremiah ( 3-1 win)
I’m going all out this week, as the Hammers look to win big! I think the shutout produced a wake-up call for our defense and they will respond, hopefully with Masuaku at LB.
Brighton looked good as well but it was at the hands of Watford who couldn’t finish if their lives depended on it. I am fearful of the double striker combo but I think it’ll be a change of fortunes for both sides.
Besides, West Ham has to win or we might burn Vegas to the ground, as always, COME ON YOU IRONS.
Denver Scott ( 4-1 Win)
My boy Lanzini will get the brace. We go down 1-0 early and then bully them the rest of the match. Rice gets a yellow for a brutal tackle to wake his teammates up. Young striker in off the bench for the last 15 minutes.
Wilshire and Fornals rum the opposition ragged. I think we go with Fredericks on the right Masuaku left. If Haller doesn’t go, Chicharito upfront.
As if we need to say anything else, all 7 of the Green Street Hammers writers seem to believe that West Ham are the clear-cut favorite to win this weekend and why not. Let us know what you think, and until next time, COYI!
