Sébastien Haller can change West Ham’s recent striker woes
By Jay Korman
Rumors have surfaced that West Ham are currently trying to negotiate a fee for Eintracht Frankfurt star striker Sébastien Haller. At first it seemed the Frenchman was not keen on the move, however, recent reports indicate that he might be warming up to the idea. This would be a massive signing for the Hammers.
A few days ago, all of West Ham twitter went into a massive meltdown because of the news that Maxi Gomez is officially signing with Valencia. This could all be a distant memory, however, if West Ham could secure the signing of Sébastien Haller. Although there are many conflicting reports going around about the deal, one thing is for sure: West Ham are keen on Haller and he is now Pellegrini and Husillos’s number one target after missing out on Gomez.

Haller is coming off of an incredible season for the Bundesliga side, who finished last season in a European position, much of which had to do with Haller’s performance on the pitch. The French target-man scored 20 goals in all competitions and can set up his teammates to perfection as well, tacking on 12 assists.
The tough part now for the Hammers, who seem to have agreed a fee with Haller’s club, is convincing him that a move to the London Stadium is one that would accelerate his career and push him forward rather than backward. We have to remember that his current club do have European football next year.
Haller is the kind of signing who would thrive in Pellegrini’s system. He represents a big body up top who can hold up play, finish in the air, and is clinical in front of goal. Haller could have a big season ahead of him, receiving balls from the likes of Felipe Anderson and Pablo Fornals. Of course, it has been documented how tough finding a great striker has been for the Hammers over the years. West Ham have signed 38 strikers since 2010 and those players have only scored 203 goals in 957 games. It is clearly a position that the Irons need to get right to push into Europe, and I believe Haller is the answer.
After missing out on Maxi Gomez, I think the Irons are under a lot of pressure to bring in a huge talent at the position. It seems to be what Pellegrini has demanded all window, and the club needs to do him justice and bring in a top quality player to lead the Hammers’ line.
Haller would be coming into a great situation at West Ham. He would be the club’s first choice striker and would receive most of the service throughout the season. I think that his physical style of play fits the Premier League beautifully. Let’s hope that Hammers can get this one done quickly and make us all forget about Maxi Gomez.
