The Hammers opened their preseason campaign in Austria against Austrian side Altach. While the score was close, the West Ham got the win and got to see a lot of minutes spread out across their massive squad.

The Goals

The opening goal came just shy of the 6th minute. The Hammers were penned in their own end to start the match by a high pressing Altach team. Once possession was regained and held, Felipe Anderson burst up the left side and dribbled his way into the opposition’s box before getting his attempt blocked, resulting in a corner. Robert Snodgrass whipped in the ball and Michail Antonio’s screen was enough to leave Carlos Sanchez open for the first goal of the match.

The second goal was great for two reasons. The Irons’ starting striker, Michail Antonio beautifully timed his run and caught the backline sleeping, then had a terrific touch to keep possession of the long ball, then dribbled the keeper to put home the ball. The composure from Antonio was great, but the best part of this goal was Mark Noble’s long ball over the top from a mile away.

The third and final goal came from a short corner quickly taken by Jack Wilshere. He worked with Grady Diangana to move the ball to the top of the box where he whipped it into a kneeling Issa Diop. This goal showed off West Ham’s commitment to attacking football, as Diop stayed in the box despite the corner being slowly worked, and also allowed Wilshere to show off his crossing abilities.
