Which West Ham players career is hanging in the balance on their way to Switzerland?
As West Ham made their way to Switzerland yesterday and all of the joys of reuniting were over, there have to be a few players thinking about their careers in East London and whether or not there stay as a Hammer is soon to be over.
The player that might be weighing his options for West Ham is Carlos Sanchez. Sanchez spent basically the entire season out as he was dealing with a knee injury for over 7 months. In that time he saw his position secured by Declan Rice and even the backup role taken by Nobes or Obiang.
Now with the return of Wilshere and the signing of Pablo Fornals, Manuel Pellegrini hasn’t made it easy for the 33-year-old in his preseason return. Sanchez is only entering his second season with West Ham and is already finding it difficult to find a future here.

Additionally, the Colombian International has somewhat of a journeyman mentality about him. Since his start to professional football in 2003, he has spent time with 10 different teams in the span of the past 16 years. Safe to say, moving is not new to him.
Although not necessarily on the chopping block so to speak, Pellegrini will be looking at what to do with the midfielder especially since he has a diminishing sell on value. According to transfermarkt.com, he is listed as the 26th ranked Hammer in current market value.
It will most likely come down what he, the player, wants. If he is looking for playing time to finish out his career, West Ham might not be the place. However, if he wants to stay on a positive Premier League side and be a voice in the changing room, this is that place for him.
As a veteran football player, Sanchez has a lot of knowledge and ability that could be passed on to the likes of Coventry, Cullen, and even Rice. This preseason will not be a time of getting back into the swing of football, but a time of reflection as Carlos Sanchez will most definitely need to think about what’s next for him at West Ham or not.
