Is West Ham at a transfer deadlock until some pieces move?

The brain power at West Ham United seems to be off to another good transfer window, but are they at a deadlock? Do pieces have to move before anyone else gets brought in and what are those pieces that need to leave?

This season has been somewhat refreshing in the fact that West Ham isn’t linked to everyone under the sun. Not to mention that our 3 signings so far, have been realistically unknown about until they signed. But with another potential lull in the signings and spots needed to be filled?

The seems to be 3 more positions wanting to be filled, possibly 4 (winger), with the main ones being forward, box to box midfielder, and finally a central defender. My thought is that in order for the Hammers to fill these slots, some people have to leave but who and why?

New Forward

West Ham has already shipped off Carroll and Perez leaving Arnautovic, Chicharito, Hugill, and Silva. Silva might be the next great thing but not yet. Hugill is most likely going to be sold, so that leaves us to Chicha. If West Ham wants to inbound of Maxi Gomez, Chicharito needs to be sold.

The balance of all of this hangs on what Chicha decides to do. Weirdly enough, both he and Gomez are linked to Valencia. However, if the Hammers don’t sign Gomez and send Chicha off, then you will see the likes of a Llorente or some other backup forward come in.

Box to box midfielder

It’s been mentioned so many times that West Ham has a packed midfield. Good for competition, bad for the gaffers headaches. For me, it comes down to either Obiang or Snodgrass leaving. I for one think that Bob, Robert Snodgrass, is more versatile and should stay.

Pedro Obiang’s lack of desire to play and heart anger me. Not to mention, the reports of Italy calling him back, send him off so we can add someone of Pellegrini’s liking and hopefully someone who we have yet to be linked with.

Central defender

For now, West Ham has 4 guys that could jump into the starting role if needed especially with a “healthy” Reid coming back. The talks of Maripan have slowed way down and I’m honestly not sure if he will be coming.

With all that being said, I think it could be that West Ham wants to offload either Ogbonna or Reid before bringing him or someone else in. Reid’s price tag is way too high for most other clubs to look at him so Oggy is the obvious choice. If they don’t want a new face on the backline, I for one would be ok with the players we have.

dark. Next. Will West Ham get a fully fit Wilshere?

West Ham isn’t just bringing in anyone they can get their hands on like in the past. Husillos has changed that environment so they can now focus solely on what is needed and who is a good fit. All we have to do now is wait for the pieces to fall.
