Pablo Fornals analysis: Will West Ham’s top target improve the squad?
West Ham are reportedly closing in on the signing Villarreal’s Pablo Fornals. Is he going to help the club make the next step in the Premier League?
It’s still early in the transfer window but West Ham fans are understandably nervous after recent windows failing to live up to the early promises. However regular ITK blogger ExWhuEmployee has stated there’s reason to be positive in West Ham’s chase of young, attacking midfielder Pablo Fornals.
Although I must start with a heavy emphasis on being cautious in your optimism, it does seem as though there are some real legs to this move. And he’s a talent, despite what look likes low returns from the initial, highlight numbers. 2 goals and 3 assits in La Liga isn’t exactly setting the league alight. But, like all moves that aren’t crazy expensive, it will represent a decent amount of risk for Pellegrini and the club.

In terms of hitting targets for the club, Fornals is young and exciting, and really is the kind of player we all want to wax lyrical about. He’s a great dribbler and whilst his final product can be lacking at times I remain confident that whatever club he ends up at after the summer he will improve upon that part of his game. But from any of the number of highlight videos that are now being passed around West Ham twitter you can see he that he will play the way Pellegrini wants.
Whilst he is likely to cost upwards of 20m, that kind of money isn’t massive in today’s market. There are a lot of very average players that will come with that pricetag, and I think Fornals has the ability to make it in the Premier League with the right training and the shape around him. My only concern is that it could mean the likes of Lanzini being closer to the door, although my personal love for the little Argentine has been dented recently by the desire for bigger wages. Although having both in the squad would be a stark increase in quality over the past few years.
All in all I think he would be a good move for the club and signal exactly where we want to be going forward and what we’re after in the market. I’m happy with the news that the club ownership isn’t in direct control, and Pellegrini and Husillos know what they want. I trust them to get the job done, so lets hope this one is a deal that is done sooner rather than later.
