Zabaleta shares thoughts on West Ham and their new home
As West Ham United close out their third full season at the London Stadium, the question is still being raised: Is this West Ham’s home? This question might still be out for many supporters but for one veteran of the game, he seems to think things are getting better.
Pablo Zabaleta, a veteran to the sport, has been with the Hammers for two seasons now and has just extended his contract through next season. He has recently spoken on the clubs website about how he feels about the London Stadium and how Manuel Pellegrini is turning things around.
He was quoted to say:
"“Every season is better. The last two seasons at London Stadium we’ve been in a relegation battle until the end of the season, so the atmosphere wasn’t as good, but this season I think we played some of the best football at home, especially when we beat Manchester United, Arsenal and some other big teams, it seems like the fans are so much happier now.”"
Obviously, the fans should be happier, and why not? West Ham finished the season with 31 points gained at home which is remarkable since the Hammers only finished with 42 total points last season. Pablo also wanted to emphasize his feelings toward the gaffer stating, “With his experience, always working at top clubs, he is trying to take West Ham to another level” and he is expecting that behind Pellegrini’s mentorship the home form will continue into next season for West Ham.
A few things are certain for me. One, the West Ham players seem to be feeling more at home in the London Stadium and seem to trust Pellegrini. Two, the fans are starting to come around to the idea of this new home and it helps that the board are making changes to the stadium fulfilling their promises.
West Ham is a club that feeds off of each other, the supporters and players alike. With the ever-growing confidence that the team has in the management and the fans love for good football at home, this transition process seems to be moving in the right direction.
As Zabaleta and the squad get ready for next season it must be comforting to know that they have a home and a manager that they can get behind and push towards shaking the top of the table, as it is also comforting as a fan to know those factors are working together for the greater good of the club.
