West Ham have had a bit of a topsy turvy season, with too many twists to detail. So what can Pellegrini aim for over the last few games?

It’s a strange part of the season for a lot of clubs, because safety is all but guaranteed and European football is too far away. If 7th doesn’t get European football this season (dependent on the FA cup winner) then everyone from Wolves to Leicester has little to aim for in the league. Some may have a cup, but what if you don’t?

Even if 7th does get Euro Cup, it’s unlikely to be in East London. It’s a 5 point gap to Wolves and they have a game in hand. And to be honest, they’re playing better than us. So I don’t think that we’re going to catch them. But there are things that Pellegrini can look to aim for over the last few months of the season.

More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

The first one is pretty obvious: finish as high as possible. If the Hammers finish 8th compared to 12th, everyone can reflect on the season in a much more positive way, especially considering we lost our first 4 matches whilst looking miles off the pace. That kind of finish shows that we’re a club players can join if they’re looking to progress their career, but aren’t quite good enough for the big sides, or they’re just not ready yet.

The second is to work out where all the players play going forward. Lanzini and Nasri will take up the same role. Diangana and Yarmolenko will want to play in the same place, as will Snodgrass for the most part. Is there room for Fernandes to return to the side in the summer? Can Fredericks really step up to replace Zabaleta if he leaves in the summer? There’s a lot to consider for our squad…

The third is to wonder about what signings to make: Can Arnie really stay at the club? Will Reid ever play in Claret and Blue again? What kind of left back can we get in for long term? It might not be a silverware season for the Chilean, but he can get a lot of answers for the future.
