What to expect when you’re expecting (nothing); West Ham Transfers
By Adam Smith
Incumbents?
Gary Cahill – Angelo Ogbonna isn’t cutting it anymore as a starter and despite what you may think Gary Cahill is exactly what West Ham needs right now. He’s a veteran, league winning, English defender who can bring stability while Balbuena is out and keep it in the team while training with them. Just a loan deal for Cahill, although if he impresses Pellegrini I could see him being brought back in in the summer to act as a safety net.
Michy Batshuayi – Another window, another loan for Batshuayi? Seems like that may just be the case right now for the Belgian striker. As reported by ExWHUEmployee, the deal has been proposed but Batshuayi doesn’t know if it’s the right move for his career. He came from France, succeeded in Germany, failed in Spain, and has yet to do anything in the Premier League. The player may not be excited by it, but the move makes a lot of sense for both parties.

Olivier Giroud – If not Batshuayi then Giroud could be the next up at Chelsea for a replacement striker at West Ham. The French World Cup winner would provide a winning pedigree and a loan would see out the remainder of his contract. He wouldn’t have to move his home and would see regular first-team football at West Ham, which makes a deal attractive to him.
John Fleck – 27-year-old Scottish midfielder who dictates play for a team contesting for promotion in the Championship doesn’t sound too bad, does it? Not when you factor that Fleck would be replacing the toothless Obiang in midfield. West Ham have had a bid rejected but could swoop for him at a higher fee after some departures.
Che Adams – After Birmingham looked solid against West Ham in the FA Cup the Irons were linked with a move for striker Che Adams in this window. The move would have to be around 10m but it’s money well spent on an English 22-year-old striker. Not a bad depth/future move for Pellegrini and the Hammers.
