West Ham ranked as 8th favourites to win FA Cup
West Ham are set to play AFC Wimbledon this weekend and are heavy favourites to progress. But despite the easy match up, they aren’t rated as one of the top 5 to win the trophy.
West Ham have been chasing the FA cup for some time, and haven’t won since 1980. In the time since then, the closest they came was a final appearance in 2006. Pellegrini would love to win a trophy at the club, and the FA Cup represents the only major trophy in our reach.
However Manchester City, Chelsea, Spurs, United, Arsenal, Everton and Wolves can all be backed at shorter odds than the Hammers. With the current draw and the way everyone is playing, is that a fair assumption?

Given that Arsenal play United, these odds are a bit strange. One of these teams will be out after this weekend, so even if you hold that game as 50/50 I think it’s fair to say that both of these sides should be considered either longer odds or at least on par with the Hammers. Given that one through the draw is just as likely to be easy or hard for any side.
Spurs have Palace this weekend, and given the number of injuries they have they’re going to find it hard. But they’re even shorter odds than United and Arsenal. With that, a league challenge and matches in the Champions League can we really say they’ll give their all to the FA Cup? You could say they’re more likely to win than the Hammers, but twice as likely? Really?
I do expect City and Chelsea to cruise through this round, and they are strong favourites, so I can’t argue there. Wolves and Everton also have decent fixtures, but I would put their chances about the same as West Ham, not shorter. Both Everton and Wolves have shown real performances this season, but have also been poor at times. West Ham have just as much to show in one off performances, which is what the FA cup is.
All in all I think the Hammers have a real shot at this, and the odds don’t reflect how close we could get. Get past Wimbledon and with a few results going our way we could be one of the top 5 clubs left in the draw. Could this be our year?
