West Ham must keep hard line and refuse to be dictated to by Arnautovic
West Ham’s Arnautovic saga looks set to continue as the Chinese clubs aren’t meeting the askign price. With him not ‘being in the right frame of mind to play’ against Bournemouth, how long will this go on for?
Since the Arnautovic bid broke, West Ham fans have been going through a whole range of emotions. At first I suspect most were worried about him leaving, but then over time the excitement of going forward with a new signing became the prevalent emotion. But then the Bournemouth game changed that.
Arnie was dropped from the squad after he was told that he would be staying and reacted badly. Compare this to Obiang, who has been told the same thin but has remained professional. Why should players dictate when they go? I understand everyone has feelings, but when you sign a 4 year contract can you really be annoyed when the company holds you to it?

I know that some people in the real world have issues with contracts that are poorly drawn up or misleading, but Arnautovic got all the terms he wanted in his and it would have been looked over by his agent. And then agreed with. For many thousands a week. If he didn’t want to stay here for more than 18 months then he shouldn’t have signed for 4 years. You don’t get to break contract when you like it.
The club can’t just tear up a contract without paying a fee, and whilst they can accept a bid from a club they can’t force the player to leave. So why can the player ask to move and not be in ‘the right frame of mind’ without being fined? I can’t turn up to work and not turn my computer on because I’m not really feeling it. Hell, my work even know I want to leave and I still turn up giving 100% because that’s what I agreed to do.
Arnie is risking never being able to come back from this, and damaging both his and West Ham’s future. He is a good striker, but unless the clubs make a bid that meets the Hammer’s demands he hasn’t done anything special to earn our undying gratitude. A good year a the club? Many players have done that. The Austrian needs to get over his own ego.
