More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

Maxi Gomez

The big move that has the most potential for me is Maxi Gomez of Celta Vigo. He has a release clause in his contract of a fee similar to that which we will sell Arnie for, if he does go. At 22 he is young and improving and Pellegrini believes he will fit the system he wants to work at the club. As such the Hammers are likely to push the budget where possible, like they did for Anderson.

Gomez, for me, would make up for the loss of Arnautovic. I think the Austrian is better now, but in terms of potential and the long term future of the club, both playing wise and financially, Gomez is a better deal. This season we may not get as high as we want up the league. However with Gomez at the helm we are more likely to be able to fire our way to European contention in the future.

dark. Next. Can West Ham afford to let Chicharito leave?

If the Hammers can lose their top striker but get the services of someone like Gomez in then we’ll be showing we’re an improving club. Barcelona are rumoured to be interested here, but the hard work could be worth it. Only the club knows what will happen, but there are some good options out there. What will our strikeforce be come February 1st?
