Can West Ham fire their way past Arsenal? Our writers predict the result
West Ham take on Arsenal at home this weekend, as the Premier League resumes after the FA Cup. Who will get the win in this London derby?
Adam: West Ham 2 – 3 Arsenal
With all the chaos swirling around West Ham and Marko Arnautovic this match is going to go one of two ways – either he has a statement performance and leads West Ham to a win, or he and the team get overwhelmed by the Gunners attack. It’s close but im picking the latter.
There will be a massive amount of eyes on West Ham for this match and I think the pressure could prove too much. I don’t like the idea of Angelo Ogbonna stopping Aubumeyang or Lacazette, and the midfield is a little too light (aside from Rice, of course) to bring the needed pressure to disrupt the quick forwards of Arsenal. I could see Felipe Anderson taking over this game, however, so i’ll chalk him up for one goal and the other coming from a corner kick or free kick over the underwhelming Arsenal defenders. Close game and super entertaining, but not going to fall the Hammers way

Jeremiah: 2-2 Draw
As I’ve said numerous times both West Ham and Arsenal are way different teams then last time we faced off on week 3. I predict this match will be high flying and nervy for most of it. I think with the Hammers sometimes slow starts it could look ugly at first but they have shown a fight about them.
The Gunners on the other hand have had an up and down month. I don’t see anyway that we can hold them to less than two goals. The high powered strike force is something to sneer at. As always, London derbies can be back n fourth and should not disappoint! 2-2 draw and COME ON YOU IRONS
Scott: 3-2 to West Ham
On the podcast I said 2-2 because I thought it would be pretty even but the defences were weak points, and so we would see goals. However since then I have been thinking, and I now back the Hammers to get the edge on Arsenal and prove that we can mix with the top teams in the league at home.
I think Arnie will be up for this weekend, whether he wants to stay at the club or not. He’s either playing for a move or playing to prove his loyalty, and I think he’s going to have too much attitude for the centrebacks that Arsenal put out. If Diop and Ogbonna have a decent game I hope we can keep Aubameyang away from the goal long enough to win out.
Jeff: 3-1 to Arsenal
All of the pundits would be talking about what a great job Manager Manuel Pellegrini has done this year in turning the fortunes of West Ham around from last season’s relegation battle if it wasn’t for Unai Emery and the transformation Arsenal has taken under his leadership.
He has the Gunners playing an exciting, attacking style of football and they sit 5th in the table just three points behind Chelsea (and their new Manager). The record between these two clubs does not favor the Hammers—winners of just one of the last 21. That was a 2-0 victory in Slaven Bilic’s first match in charge back in 2015.
West Ham also comes into the match a bit shaky on the back end since Fabian Balbuena went out with an injury three weeks ago. Bad timing as Arsenal are third in the Premier League in goals scored. On the Irons plus side, Emery has never won an away game vs a Pellegrini side in all competitions.
Perhaps this week’s controversy (again) swirling around Marko Arnautovic’s future will have him coming out firing on all cylinders and bag an early goal that makes things a bit easier for his club. One thing for certain—Manuel Pellegrini will go into this home match with intent for WHU to get a result. That doesn’t mean they are capable of doing so, however.
