Silva, Holland and Diangana should feature for West Ham in FA Cup
West Ham take on Birmingham in the FA Cup this weekend, as we take a break from the Premier League. With the squad tired, youth should get the nod for this fixture.
West Ham begin their FA Cup adventure for another year tomorrow, and I think the fans are excited. We’re in a safe position in the league with a good squad and a top manager. With not too much to aim for in the league, the cup offers a chance for a trophy as well as an outlet for the players and fans.
With the squad tired and a lot of attacking talent in the U23’s I think we should be rewarding them. Whilst I don’t think it should be an entirely youth squad, this is a chance to move them into the side and give them a chance with players they know. Add some experience in and boom, we have ourselves a chance for a win against Birmingham and encouraging the youngsters to progress.

For me the three that should be used up front are Holland, Silva and Diangana. Diangana, given his use in the first team, should be a given with the squad tired and currently injury hit as it is. Holland can play well on the other wing, and with strong performances last season and this in the U23’s I want to see him with some experienced players against more professional opposition.
Xande Silva is also a talent that many at the club are very excited about. Whether it is up front or on the wing I think he could be explosive for the side. With his pace and ability to turn defenders on their heels I would be genuinely happy if this man headed our attack at the weekend with the other youth players out wide.
I would also want to give a debut to new player Nasri in a No.10 role. He would have the experience here to be able to guide the youngsters and help them settle into a match they will obviously be expectant, and potentially nervy, for.
The worst thing we could do is continue to play the same squad players we have seen so far, and tire them out more. We can beat this Birmingham side without risking everyone, at least from the start. Why not benefit youth as well? That’s what we want from West Ham isn’t it?
