It’s January, and that means it’s time for crazy transfer rumours. I don’t think we’re going to get much crazier than Kramaric to West Ham as a rumour though.

Every year there’s a reason that West Ham shouldn’t be involved in transfer rumours. Usually it’s that we don’t have enough money, or we’re not good enough to attract the level of player that makes January interesting. However this year it should be that we’re not in desperate need of anything. Yet we’re still linked with huge bids for players who will not move.

January is not like the summer. In the summer window there are a lot more possibilities simply because you can convince players of projects and clubs know that if they get a big fee for a player they can reinvest. In January there are not many clubs willing to sell important players. Which makes the idea of us signing Kramaric mental.

More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

Being a West Ham fan I spend a lot of time looking for rumours and articles that have any weight to them, and occasionally you get crazy ones as well. This one here, from FootballFanCast, based on a poll as well as social media accounts retweeting articles about interest we had in Kramaric from his Leicester city days sum up January. Well, those and some random Croatian outlets linking as well. Everywhere you look there are people trying to get you thinking we are interested in players, or players are interested in joining us.

Would I like Kramaric? Of course I would! Do I think he’s going to want to leave Hoffenheim mid season? Probably not. And will the German club sell him mid season? Absolutely not! I don’t think that he’s out of our league when it comes to the summer, but as explained above there are issues with January moves that mean selling clubs won’t do so without big cause. And do you think our owners are going to fork out a huge sum of money with the side in mid-table, unlikely to reach Europe this year and very unlikely to be relegated?

When you see a rumour this month, start from the selling clubs point of view. They have to be convinced to do anything, and that’s why January prices are so crazy. I can’t see the Hammers bringing in anyone too big or pricey before the summer, and I think it’s safe to dismiss those rumours straight away. Leave these ideas until the summer, and save yourself the hearbreak when they don’t turn out to be true.
