West Ham have been linked with a number of strikers this window, and it seems we need to lose one to get one. Mexican poacher Chicharito may still be on his way out of East London, despite the recent improvement in form.

Ever since Moyes became manager at West Ham, rumours of Chicharito’s departure have been at the forefront of the club. There have been links to European clubs and MLS alike, and the striker refused to guarantee his return to East London after the World Cup. But it did seem as though he was going to be staying after a recent run of games and goals.

However with Pellegrini stating that he would like a new striker, Lucas Perez only having joined in the summer and Carroll’s contract ending in the summer, Chicharito seems the likely man to depart to make that happen. And if it hadn’t been for the recent games, it would have made a lot of sense.

More from Green Street Hammers - West Ham

There are those at the club who don’t think Chichcarito is a player worth keeping, and I do have some sympathy for that view. The midfield dominance in the Premier League often means the striker has to be able to operate as an isolated figure, and the Mexican can’t really deal with that. He works well in a pair, but is a one dimensional player.

There are strong rumours linking us with Michy Batshuayi, and that is a player who could step in for Arnie when necessary and also play alongside him. The ability to sub a player without having to change your system is important to Pellegrini, as shown by the signing of the versatile Nasri. He does not want to have a headache everytime he wants to give the Austrian a rest.

Whilst I will not be overly happy to lose Chicharito, as I think he offers more than Lucas, I can understand that he won’t want to play a secondary rotation role. Chicharito could front may teams around Europe and in the US, and without too many years left of his career why would he spend that on the bench for a side who won’t be challenging regularly for trophies?
