Aaron Ramsey too much of a longshot option for West Ham
Aaron Ramsey is set to leave long term club Arsenal on a free transfer at the end of the season. However that doesn’t mean West Ham should waste their time trying to get him.
West Ham’s board have long tried to get top players on deals that don’t involve transfer fees. It offers a chance to get players without offering an upfront fee, and any wage expenses can be smoothed out over time or removed by selling the player in the future. Whilst Aaron Ramsey my seem like an attractive player for the club, they shouldn’t bother trying to sign him.
Don’t get me wrong, I think he would improve the side. He’s a talented attacking midfielder and can play in a central midfield role alongside a defensive midfielder or in more advanced roles behind the striker. I just don’t think we’re going to be able to compete. We should use the time and effort we could spend trying to convince him to join on other deals.

Before I get called a no-hoper and pessimist, I am aware that the Hammers are on an upward trajectory. We’ve made big signings and with Pellegrini at the helm the new few seasons certainly look more promising. But there are far bigger clubs in pursuit of the Welshman, and that was confirmed by David Ornstein on twitter.
And again, this isn’t something I’m just losing hope over. Ornstein is a very reliable source around Arsenal matters and if any of you think we have more pulling power than Bayern or Juve, you’re mental. These teams win trophies on a regular basis and offer a different level of pay and competition.
The only hope we have is if Ramsey decides he doesn’t want to leave London. former Arsenal defender Lauren thinks that West Ham could be a natural home if he decides that, given his animosity with Spurs and Chelsea, and the fact Palace and Watford are just not the same quality or standard of club as the Hammers.
So unless the board hear from Wilshere that Ramsey doesn’t want to move abroad or up north, we shouldn’t be troubling ourselves. We offer a very particular role to this calibre of players, and only if they decide playing time is more important than trophies will they consider joining us. That’s a fact, and one we need to deal with.
