West Ham are looking increasingly likely to sign Samir Nasri this January on a free deal. It is also very likely he will sign on lower wages than initially advertised.

When it was first announced that West Ham were interested in signing former Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder Nasri, I wasn’t exactly pleased. This is a player who had been banned for issues with potential doping, and whose attitude had been questioned previously. Add to that he’s not the youngest on the scene and there were more than enough reasons to not be too excited about the move.

However in recent days there has been positive news out of the club around his presence. Players are reportedly impressed with his ability in training and his attitude is reportedly good as well. With Lanzini yet to return after his injury, maybe a versatile player like Nasri to add to our attacking options isn’t too bad an idea?

ExWhuEmployee revealed on his podcast that the club are looking to sign the Frenchman on an initial 6 month deal with an option to extend if all goes well. Wages are likely to be between 60-80k which are not as bad as first mentioned. If he can help us maintain our current form past December then all seems good.

However the biggest things that has changed my opinion of this deal is a realisation that all of Pellegrini’s signings have come good. He wanted Anderson, Diop and Balbuena and quite simply they’ve exceeded any expectations I’ve had. Snodgrass was all but consigned to the scrap heap, but wise words and encouragement from the Chilean has given him a new lease of life. If Pellegrini wants Nasri, give him what he wants. After initial wariness about some of the decisions he made, he’s done enough now where he deserves autonomy over this kind of choice.

Nasri is no stranger to Pellegrini and I am certain he has a plan in mind. With Wilshere injured for longer than initially thought and Lanzini requiring a long rehab time, he could be a perfect solution. He can play wider if necessary as well, giving Pellegrini more options through the season as he perfects his system.
